In Norse mythology, Tyr is the god of law, justice, and oaths. The gods needed to bind Fenrir, the wolf of chaos, with an unbreakable chain (Gleipnir). But Fenrir would only accept binding if a god placed his hand in its mouth as a pledge of good faith.
